Frequently Asked Questions About Underwear For Men
What is the difference between Underwear For Men Sport, Work, Everyday and Medical versions?
Our US patented and Intl patents pending men’s underwear has many uses, including sport, work, everyday, and medical. We designed the website to explain how our men’s underwear will suit you when you wear Underwear For Men for each of these product segments. Each segment features the same premium men’s underwear products made by Underwear For Men. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4thgenerations have minor differences in the product (see the question below for more information about the generations). Underwear For Men is extremely versatile and suits the lifestyles of every man in every moment.
Can you explain in simple terms what is the difference between the Generations versus the segments like Work, Sport, or Medical?
Each Generation of Underwear For Men includes product updates and changes driven by our customer base and product engineers. The product segments, which are sport, work, everyday, and medical, are simply ways you can wear your UFMs. There is no difference between the products in each segment. When you buy Gen 3 boxer briefs from everyday, you get the same product if you bought Gen 3 boxer briefs from work.
Does Underwear For Men offer larger sizes?
Yes. Big and Tall Underwear is now available in sizes up to 5X (56-58” waist) in the 2nd and 3rd generation boxer briefs with a 6” inseam. In addition, with the launch of the 4th generation, we now have briefs and 9” boxer briefs for men up to size 3X (48-50’’ waist). We plan to increase our size ranges in the near future. Our design team welcomes your input.
If my size is on the border, what size should I select?
If your waist size is on the border or between sizes on our chart, we always recommend sizing up. We want you to have the right fit with Underwear For Men briefs and boxer briefs. For information on sizing, visit our Size Chart page.
What are the differences between the versions?
There are four generations of UFM Underwear, but Gen 1-2 are no longer available.
Generation 3 MAX (2016):
Generation 3 has a shallower drawstring path that provides lift as well as support (as did Gen 1 & 2). In providing this lift, you may feel some pressure at the back of the scrotum. The Gen 3 introduced more sizes, including Big and Tall, 4 new colors, and a boxer brief with a 9-inch inseam. Gen 3 sizes small (28-30”) to 2X (44-46”) are available in black, red, gray, camo, royal blue, turquoise, and white. Gen 3 Big and Tall sizes 3X (48-50”) to 5X (56-58”) available in black, red and gray. Our Gen 3 boxer briefs with a 9” inseam is available in black.
Generation 3.1 MAX (2019):
Generation 3.1 is an upgraded version of Generation 3 with a similar drawstring path and lift feature. improvements in Gen 3.1 are:
1.) Bamboo is now available in the MAX for the first time.
2.) Larger pouch.
3.) Stretchier and more breathable pouch material (same material as Gen 4 & 5).
4.) Buttonholes through the waistband in place of metal grommets.
5.) Higher rise in the back.
6.) New MAX waistband. Generation 3.1 is available in Bamboo and polyester, 6"and 9" lengths, Gray and Black and sizes S-5X.
Generation 4 REG (2017):
The drawstring path on Generation 4 is routed deeper into the crotch. This makes for additional comfort making the drawstring less noticeable. The Gen 4 added the new material option of viscose (bamboo) in the brief and 6-inch boxer brief. All briefs and boxer briefs have an updated waistband, manufactured from a new material. All products have a shorter drawstring. Gen 4 briefs come with a lower rise, more elastic in the legs, and new material options. We also added a trunk style with a 3-inch inseam. All of our styles and fabrics are available in Black, Red, Gray and Royal Blue, except for the polyester spandex trunks, which are available in Black, Gray and Royal Blue, and the viscose (bamboo) spandex 9-inch boxer briefs, which are only available in Black.
Generation 5 REG (2019):
Generation 5 is an upgrade of the Generation 4. improvements in Gen 5 are:
1.) Gray polyester is now a heather gray.
2.) Larger pouch.
3.) Buttonholes through the waistband in place of metal grommets.
4.) Higher rise in the back. Generation 5 is available in Bamboo (Black) and polyester (Gray), 9" lengths and sizes S-5X.
How do I know which Generation to order?
A great starting point for your new UFMs is to always try the latest generation of products. Gen 4 is our most recent generation so we suggest selecting a Gen 4 product in either the Polyester/Spandex or the Viscose (Bamboo) option. While all of our Generations offer excellent support, if you are looking for MAXIMUM support, try any of our 3rd Generation styles. If you are looking for REGULAR Support, try any of 4th Generation styles.
What is the difference between Polyester and Bamboo versions of UFM?
UFMs are currently offered in both 90% Polyester 10% Spandex and 95% Viscose (from Bamboo) 5% Spandex.
Poly/Spandex- Are the most rugged and provides maximum moisture wicking properties. They also provides more compression due to the higher spandex content.
Bamboo/Spandex- Provides a cottony feel, but unlike cotton, this fabric wicks sweat. We recommend wearing these briefs and boxer briefs for everyday, medical, and low to moderate athletic use.
No matter which material you choose, the support is the same. Both material options use the same pouch design and poly spandex mesh (trunks, 6" boxer brief and 9" boxer brief). The pouch on the briefs is the same fabric as the body material.

What is the difference between Regular and Max Support?
The difference is the drawstring path. For Regular Support the drawstring reaches deeper into the crotch between the legs. This makes the drawstring less noticeable. Max Support, the drawstring path is more forward and puts some pressure behind the scrotum resulting in more lift.
Which is better?
It depends on personal preference and also depends on your body proportions. Both provide excellent support. Max was our original design (Generations 1, 2, 3 and now 3.1). We revised the design in Gen 4 (Now Regular support Gen 4 and 5) based on customer feedback and to our surprise, 50% loved the change and 50% preferred the original design. Since we strongly believe in listening to our customers, we decided to continue offering both.
